Long term weight loss Archives

Enough with the methods to lose weight fast

Ok.  I’ve talked about ways to lose weight fast, but what about long term?

My little tricks I mentioned previously do work but they are only temporary.   I am on a journey to long term weight loss.  I weigh about 60 pounds more than I did 10 years ago.  I want to get it off and keep it off.  I think i will continue to take Alli and try to cut out the sugar.  I do drink alcohol a bit with coke.  I don’t think I will quit drinking but I can switch my mixer to water.  I have tried to drink liquor with diet or sugar free soda and it does not work.  It tastes horrible!  I don’t know what it is.  But water works.

I am also going to dig up some “skinny” pictures of myself and put them around the house.  That always helps to motivate me, especially when cheese cake is calling my name.

So starting today, I am going to start taking Alli again, cut out the sugar, and get off my ass and do some physical activity.  These things should be easy enough and are not a drastic change.  See, when you try to do something extremely different from your normal routine you tend to fail.  Just integrate some small changes and it will be much easier to stick with.

Are you really hungry or not?

I often find myself eating when I am not really hungry.  Maybe I just eat out of boredom.  I have made an effort to determine if in fact I am really hungry before I eat something.  I drink a glass of water if I think I am hungry and wait like 10-15 minutes.  Often times, I don’t feel hungry after that.  So I guess that means I was not really hungry.  Like a lot of times I will come home from work and make dinner even though I really don’t feel any hunger pangs.  Its kind of hard to fight though.  Maybe its just the act of eating that I desire and not the food itself.

Or if I go to a restaurant I feel obligated to finish my food because I don’t want to waste money.  I have finished many plates when I was kind of stuffed.  Its like I can’t stand to see anything left on my plate.  I am trying to overcome this because I think it is critical to my weight loss journey.   I guess I just have to get over it though.

My Alli experience

Well, over the summer I and my mechanic decided to start taking ALLI. I bought a scale and brought it to work so we could weigh ourselves 2 times a week. Over the summer I lost like 10 pounds and she lost 15.

This is what we did, the normal OTC Alli dose is half the prescription orlistat. So we took a double dose (2 pills) with each meal. It worked pretty well. The only thing you have to worry about is not eating something with too much fat because you will pay!! I pooped in my pants a couple of times this oily stuff when I ate too much of fatty foods. Also, when you think you have gas go to the bathroom because there is a good chance you will fart the oily discharge. Not fun at work!

All of that can be avoided by limiting your fat intake. So not only does the drug cause you to not absorb as much fat, but it trains you to not want fat so you don’t crap yourself. If you have constipation problems or pain when defecating because of hemmorhoids this will help you too because it comes out with little effort. Now, the pills are not cheap but you can order them online with a discount.

I have stopped taking them for a month or so but am going to start again this week. If you have any questions about alli let me know!!

What’s the rage about acai berry juice?

I’m sure you have heard about it on Oprah or other shows and wonder if it really works.

The acai berry (pronounced ah-sigh-ee) is a fruit that grows on the acai palm trees in the Amazon fall forest of Brazil. It’s dark purple/maroon in color and about the size of a grape. It is extremely rich in nutrients. Natives of the Amazon region have made this berry a major section of their diet for hundreds of years.

Approximately 10% of the berry contains edible pulp and skin and the remaining 90% is the pit/seed. Most of the nutrients become from the pulp and skin and the pt/seed is normally not eaten. The fruit tastes like a vibrant mix of berries and chocolates. With rich nutrients and great taste, it is not surprising that this food is becoming extremely popular.

Despite being extremely popular in Brazil, the acai berry has been  unknown in other parts of the world. But recent media coverage of this amazing matter has been talked about  on the Oprah Winfrey show, ABC, NBC and CBS news and other shows. It has also been featured in several books. In fact, Dr. Perricone calls this berry the number digit superfood in his book “The Perricone Promise”. The berry is extremely rich in antioxidants, amino acids and essential fatty acids. With 15-20 times the antioxidants as flushed grapes, it is digit of best sources of antioxidants of any food. There are numerous benefits to acai. In summary, it can help:

* Promote and help weight loss
* Boost energy & stamina
* Boost the immune system

* Fight aging and inflammation
* Protect against heart disease
